Rain washes away NW Dragons final hopes

It is a bitter blow for the NW Dragons, who looked on course for victory in Kimberley before rain crashed the party. The Dragons were 42/0 after 3.2 overs chasing 128 for victory.

Rain dashed the Dragons’ chances for progression to the CSA T20 Knockout final, as the Knights progressed due to a better overall run rate accumulated during the competition.

It is a bitter blow for the NW Dragons, who looked on course for victory in Kimberley before rain crashed the party. The Dragons were 42/0 after 3.2 overs chasing 128 for victory.

Earlier, the Dragons bowlers got the best start possible with Chad Classen and Eldred Hawken (3/37) stifling the Knights top order. Hawken dismissed Raynard van Tonder for 14, before Lwandiswa Zuma (1/27) got the crucial wicket of Rilee Rossouw for 15.

The opened the door for the Dragons to keep the pressure on as Senuran Muthusamy (2/12) struck twice to take the wickets of Patrick Kruger for 14 and Farhaan Behardien for 3. This left the Knights on 64/4. Proteas batsman, Pite van Biljon, scored a handy 29, but could not push on as Hawken rattled his stumps. Gerald Coetzee gave the Knights’ score some respectability with a quick-fire, 29 (12) as the Knights reached 127/7.

The Dragons’ opening batsmen, Wesley Marshall and Eben Botha, constructed a superb 42 run partnership as they looked on course for victory, before rain intervened.

The Knights will now face the Dolphins tomorrow in the final at 12:00.
