NW Dragons pick pacers America and Gumede in Mzansi Super League draft

Both Gumede and America will definitely give impetus to the Dragons bowling attack in next year's MSL.

The official mini draft of the division 2 players for the Mzanzi Super League in February, took place today (Friday, 22 October) with the North West Dragons picking two talented seamers from division 2 sides to bolster their team.

The Dragons had the opportunity to choose the first pick of the night and went with Eastern Storm seamer, Khwezi Gumede. In round two of the draft the Dragons scooped up one of the finds of the CSA Provincial T20 competition, Hershell America from SWD.

Both Gumede and America will definitely give impetus to the Dragons bowling attack in next year’s MSL. The other 7 division 1 sides could also choose 2 players to join their squad.

  • The Boland Rocks chose all rounder, Onke Nyaku (SWD) and the big hitting Jurie Snyman (Eastern Storm)
  • The Knights picked the experienced Cameron Delport (KZN Inland) and Aubrey Swanepoel (Northern Cape)
  • The Warriors went with local flavour choosing Jerry Nqolo and Clayton Bosch (both Border)
  • The Titans chose the big hitting Marco Marais (Border) and seamer, Johan van Dyk (Northern Cape)
  • The Dolphins went with two former Tuks team mates, Rubin Hermann (Mpumalanga, wicket-keeper batsman) and Evan Jones (Northern Cape, all-rounder)
  • The Cobras had one of the more surprising choices going with Border leg spinner, Nqaba Peter and paceman Gideon Peters (Border)
  • The Lions went the all-rounder route choosing Grant Thompson (Eastern Storm) and Malcolm Nofal (Limpopo)

Some players who are unlucky to miss out based on their CSA Provincial T20 form include Jean du Plessis (SWD), Heath Richards (SWD) and Eastern Storm batsman, Danie Rossouw.
