Saints Christian School unveiled a brand new multipurpose (soccer and netball) astroturf facility on Saturday, 22 February, which is the first soccer astroturf of its kind in Potchefstroom.
A five a side soccer tournament was hosted on the same day to celebrate the unveiling with some proper action on this state-of the-art facility.

Numerous teams participated in the tournament, which had a competitive but fun edge to it. The winner of the tournament was The Rising Stars from Sportistic Potchefstroom under the leadership of a Saints Alumni, Busang Molekane.

One of the highlights were when staff from Saints Christian School and Little Saints Nursery School competed against each other for bragging rights on the Astroturf.
According to Jade Jantjies, marketing manager of Saints, the purpose of the project is to have the best possible soccer & netball facility in North West.
“This will ensure that we continue being the trendsetters in sports in Potchefstroom. The project was sparked by Claudio Lucas in the beginning of 2021. Trompie Group started constructing the facility in October 2021,” she stated.
“We had fantastic feedback from all the teams that participated in it and the spectators really had amazing things to say about this world class facility. The atmosphere on the day was electric,” added Jantjies.
The J.B. Marks MMC of Sports Arts and Culture, Councillor Patricia Mtshali, also attended the event and emphasised the importance of this fantastic facility at schools.
“Our doors are always open for any possible partnerships that might be formed in the future. Sports development is one of our priorities as it helps in building the economy in our town.”
Saints Christian School plans to host regular tournament and events on the astroturf in this coming year with young sporting stars in the city benefiting greatly in these two sporting codes.
