The Potchefstroom High School for Girls u.19 4x100m relay team’s victory at the 2022 NW Inter-High was one of the highlights of the event.

On a day where other schools dominated on the track and field, these well-coached, talented girls made Girls High immensely proud with their efforts.

The same team also won the relay race at the u.16 level.

One of the key components of this group is their well-known coach, Shaun Bownes.

Bownes, a former Commonwealth Gold medalist in the 110 m hurdles and Olympian, has coached these girls since Grade 8.

He has seen them grow into a competitive foursome that runs with determination and character. The smile on these girls’ faces at the finish line emphasised the magnitude of this win.

“It was a fantastic job and they deserve this victory, especially considering that these girls place their priority on academics,” added Bownes.
