Dragons too good for Dolphins in Durban

Seleka weaved his spinning magic as the Dolphins batsmen could not handle him on the night.

A stunning bowling performance from former Potchefstroom Gimnasium cricketers, Caleb Seleka (4/20) and Duan Jansen (3/32) took the North West Dragons to a commanding 79-run win against the Dolphins in the CSA One Day Cup in Durban yesterday evening (18 March).

Seleka weaved his spinning magic at Kingsmead as the Dolphins batsmen could not handle him on the night. He got the big wickets of Khaya Zondo, caught and bowled for 50, as well as fellow Proteas test batsman, Keegan Petersen caught behind for 19.

This stifled the Dolphins momentum as regular wickets made the chase difficult. Dolphins opener, Sarel Erwee looked on course for a big knock, but was trapped in from from 52 by Delano Potgieter.

Jansen was also on top form getting the early dismissal of Grant Roelofsen before cleaning up the tail to end the Dolphins chase on 181 all out. Earlier on the Dragons posted a challenging 260/7 in their 50 overs thanks to superb half-centuries from Heino Kuhn (58) Chris Britz (81) and Senuran Muthusamy (73).

Britz’s half-century was a knock that showed maturity in difficult circumstances after Kerwin Mungroo (4/30) took two early wickets for the home side.

Britz showed composure in partnerships with the experienced Kuhn and in form Muthusamy as their steady approach built the innings to a winning total.

The Dragons will want to keep their unbeaten for going in their next match against the ITEC Knights in Bloemfontein on Monday, 21 March.
