AFC Bournemouth gained promotion to the Premier League in 2014/15 before getting promotion again this past 21/22 season.

AFC Bournemouth, also nicknamed “The Cherries” is currently coached by ex-England international player, Scott Parker. Although he was not part of the trip, four other coaches were present to give invaluable football tips to the youngsters and Saints Christian school coaches.

They are Steve Cuss (head of community at AFC Bournemouth and women’s team manager), Katie Scadding (women’s first team goalkeeper), Daryl Hobson and Matt Devine.

“We focused on the basics of dribbling, passing and shooting with an emphasis and teamwork and having fun at the end of the day. I was impressed with the skills that these youngsters showed as well as their ability to take listen and take on the advice that we give,” stated Cuss.

Saints’ are investing a lot in football development and this interaction and opportunity with AFC Bournemouth is just another example of this school’s intent.

The sports coordinator at Saints Christian School, Ché Williams, mentioned that everyone felt privileged knowing that a Premier League club came all the way down to Potch to invest in the school’s learners.

“Everyone was so excited. Our coaches and learners really learned a lot from the experience and high level of coaching that was presented today. It was an amazing experience and we are really privileged,” added Williams.

The school was presented with a signed AFC Bournemouth jersey. Learners will also receive certificates for participation, whilst some of the best learners also received awards on the day.

AFC Bournemouth will also visit other schools in the Gauteng, North West and Kwa-Zulu Natal areas before heading back to the UK early in June.
