New N12 ultra-marathon from Potch to Klerksdorp this July

The winner of the N12 ultra-marathon will claim R100 000.

The North West N12 Ultra- Marathon will take runners from Potch to Klerksdorp on a scenic road race adventure for the ages on the N12 Treasure Route on Saturday, 30 July.

The official launch of the event happened at the Madiba Banquet Hall in Potchefstroom on Tuesday, 5 July.
The NW Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, J.B. Marks Municipality, City of Matlosana and the NW Provincial Sports Confederation are just some of the partners involved in making this first race a massive success this month.

The race will start at the NWU McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom at 06:00 before moving north to the finish at the Klerksdorp Recreation Centre.

One of the main attractions for this race, which the Orkney Marathon Club (affiliated to Athletics Central North West) is organising, is the prize purse for the 50 km ultra-marathon.

The winner will claim R100,000. The runner-up will receive R30,000 and third place will take home R20,000.
Racing legends like the Olympian and SA 500 m record holder, Elroy Gelant, Tumisang Monnatlala, Mthobisi Baloyi and Jerry Motsau (SA 3,000 m record-holder) will also compete in the event.
There will also be a 21 km, 10 km and a five-km fun run for runners who prefer shorter and more family-friendly distances.
Pre-entries for the race close on 29 July 2022.
