Dragons keep One Day Challenge hopes alive with superb win against Titans

Shaylen Pillay 85* (110) and Senuran Muthusamy (43* off 45) put on a 98 run-partnership to take the Dragons to a memorable win.

The North West Dragons chances of making the CSA One Day Challenge final received a major boost after a fantastic 6-wicket victory against the Titans at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom yesterday (Sunday, 18 December).

The Dragons’ win was set up by a top bowling performance, restricting the Titans to 225/9 in 50 overs. Shaylen Pillay 85* (110) and Senuran Muthusamy (43* off 45) put on a 98 run-partnership to take the Dragons to a memorable win.

The Dragons are now on 17 points with one match left, just one point behind Western Province on the log.

On the bowling front, the Dragons had the visitors in deep trouble at 89/6 with Dwaine Pretorius (3/22) in 10 overs and Kerwin Mungroo (3/41) in 7 overs putting in superb performances with the ball in hand. Muthusamy (1/22) in 10 overs was also at his economical best.

An excellent counter-punching knock from Donovan Ferreira (96* from 88 balls) gave the Titans a chance at victory, but the Dragons batsmen put in a clinical performance in the chase, when it mattered most.

The Dragons next face the Boland Rocks on Wednesday, 21 December in Paarl. A win will give the Dragons a great chance of making the final. They will still need to wait on the Western Province and Boland match on Friday (23 December) to know if a place in the final will be certainty.
