A man was recently sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for a house break-in that occurred in 2016.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that on 1 October 2016, Ayanda Ngcakaula (34) gained entry into the complainant’s property by breaking the padlock of a house in Ferndale. “He further went on to break a glass door to get access into the house, where he stole several valuable items,” said Maja.

When he set the alarm went off, Ngcakaula fled the scene leaving some of the stolen items in the driveway. “Through crime intelligence, he was traced and arrested by Detective Constable Musa Nyoni who worked tirelessly to achieve a conviction.

“He appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court where he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for five years on the condition that he is not convicted on similar offences. He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

The station commander Brigadier Michelle Jones praised the detective for his hard work. She emphasised that detective officers must not be stopped by anything to make sure that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law are to be punished.

“All inhabitants of this country should feel free wherever they are, and when they leave their properties for any occasion,” she concluded.
