‘Good son’ steals car, crashes through two walls
On 24 August, a 13-year-old boy allegedly jumped into his father's car with a friend to go to the petrol station.
The youngster apparently then lost control of the car, crashed into an electricity pole and then went straight through his neighbour’s wall in the suburb of Fontainebleau.
The wall belonged to business owner Roy Lampert who rushed to work when his security company told him the alarm was going off. “When I arrived there, I saw the damage and I had to let my staff go home as there was no way we could run the business on the day. The electricity pole was fixed two days later, and only then could I start again,” said Lampert.

Neighbour Mandy Webster, whose wall was also smashed, said, “We heard a loud noise outside but were not sure what it was. In the morning we were made aware by Lampert about the big mess outside. If it was not for him we wouldn’t have known who crashed into our wall. We managed to work out the events of what had happened by going to Robin Village complex to finding the badly damaged vehicle and locating the family.” According to Webster the boy was fined R1500, which was then reduced to R650 for driving without a license.
The reckless youngsters’ uncle Pooven Moodley had no comment when asked for further details about what had happened. The father, who refused to supply his name, said, “I was unfortunately not around when the incident happened. Our child is a good boy. I don’t know what got into him on the night. He is very sorry for what he did and we have grounded him until the matter is settled.”
