Pupils showcase an outstanding musical production
RANDBURG - Pupils wow the crowd with their o stage performance.
Trinityhouse High School hosted an amazing musical show ‘Busted’ on 26 March in the school’s great hall.
According to the school’s deputy principal Riaan Vorster, who directed the music in the show, this was a major production however, there are still smaller concerts for the rest of the year. “I really enjoy working with children and we were very proud of what they achieved in only six weeks,” said Vorster. One of the school’s English teachers, Claire Mack, wrote the original script.
“The story is about a group of teenagers who spray paint the sign of the ‘Museum of Modern Performance’ as a prank and are ‘busted’ by the police. As punishment they have to do community service which involves cleaning the museum. While they are at the museum various displays come to life and the teenagers interact with scenes from well-known stage productions and films,” Vorster explained.
Scenes included Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, a contemporary ballet, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Wicked’: the untold story of the witches of Oz’, ‘Mamma Mia!’, a tap and Irish dance, ‘Gone with the Wind’, ‘Shrek’ and ‘High School Musical’. The actors were directed by Courtney Macdonald, the choreography was created by Irma Finlay whereas the lights were controlled by David Brown and the sound was by Dylan Finlay. There were about 120 pupils involved in acting, singing, playing musical instruments, dancing and on the technical side.
“We are very proud of the pupils and what they achieved after only 6 weeks of rehearsals,” said Vorster. A number of audience members commented that the show was theatre quality and streaks ahead of what one usually expects from a school production.”
