A more rewarding job

BLAIRGOWRIE – Alison Moschetta leaves the corporate world to open a special needs school for her son and those like him.

The principal of a newly established special needs school in Blairgowrie is delighted, having forsaken the corporate world to help children with multiple disabilities.
Alison Moschetta was prompted by her seven-year-old son Lucca, who suffers from multiple disabilities, and a desire to help other families in similar positions, to open Lucca Support and Care Centre in May this year.
“This is the realisation of a dream,” Moschetta said.
“Lucca has been my inspiration to open the centre and all the children are as special as my own. Now it is amazing to help people in the same position as me.”
Children at the school take advantage of speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy in a heated pool.
A medic and sports scientist also assists the children with the development of large motor skills.
A jungle gym, rabbits and sensory room are also features at the school.
“Helping children with special needs is very difficult, but rewarding,” said Cherie Smuts, manager of education at the school.
“It is great seeing their progress. I also enjoy connecting with them.”
