So many, if not all of us, know that extreme feeling of loss and then, when you realised how you lost that something special, the extreme frustration toward yourself for having done exactly what you have told yourself so many times not to do.

Maybe it is just life that happens to all of us in all its colours, flavours and joy!

Like many South African ladies, I seldom wear my jewellery, especially the items that I am very fond of and that have special memories. We are so protective over them that we leave them in a save place at home because just now somebody takes them from us. And we actually do not enjoy these beautiful glittering items like we are supposed to – wear them and allow the memories to accompany you daily!

Oh yes, and let’s not forget the fear of drying your hands – and I do not know why, but women dry their rings too in the bathroom with paper towel and before you know it, you might have chucked, not just the paper towel, but also your ring into the dustbin.

And as you have that conversation with that someone that makes you fiddle, your blood drops to your toes.

You realise your ring that you always turn during these conversations, is just not on your finger anymore. Oh, yes. Indeed, that has also happened to me.

What a relieve when I found my ring safely cushioned in the paper towel and housekeeping has not emptied the bins yet – I was so delighted housekeepers are

rigid about lunch times, else I might have been minus my ring…..which I am at the moment. And therefore my plea…..

Is there not a rule in South Africa that you are not allowed to put hand cream on while driving? Maybe it will not be a bad rule to be promulgated: No

putting on of hand cream while driving. Why not? For in the process, I placed my ring on my lap.

And as I parked in the basement at Ferndale Shopping Village and blissfully rushed off for my appointment, my ring dropped off my lap as I got out of the car. And I did not realise my loss till it was far too late. Because I hardly ever wear my wedding ring, because I am so scared to lose it…..my fear came

true. And yes, I am so upset with myself! I have lost my beautiful blue sapphire ring with diamonds which was my last piece of jewelery my husband

bought me 12 years back.

So dear reader, if you have picked up a blue sapphire and diamond ring, and are currently keeping it safe till you can trace the owner – that is me.

And I can afford up to a R4 000 reward. I will be thankful to you for my entire remaining life!! This coming May is our 20th wedding anniversary.

The return of my ring will be my biggest gift ever.

I am at the Harcourts Real Estate Office in Ferndale Shopping Village by the Randburg Court.
