Wagging tails and treats galore at Old Parks Doggy Day
The first-ever event at the sports club was such a success organiser promises to make it annual.
It was all fun, treats, wagging tails and new friends as Old Parktonian Sports Club hosted its first-ever Doggy Day.
A gloriously sunny morning greeted dogs and their humans at the Bordeaux venue on July 24.

Stalls of various suppliers of dog food, treats, and health supplements for dogs, circled a section of the field, with some pancakes and coffee for the people too.

Groomers were also on hand, as well as a fenced-off pen for Happy Yappers, an animal shelter that had lots of dogs and puppies up for adoption, or merely to play with for the day.

The highlight for many was a walk around part of the sports club – a 1km route that could be completed as many times as desired.

Then followed were an agility show, best-dressed dog competition, dog and owner look-alike competition, dog dancing and a raffle.

Water troughs and free dog ice cream and food samples were on hand to keep the furry friends energised through it all. Owners did well with keeping the place clean after their dogs had done their business, too.

“Young and old turned up with their dogs, in all shapes and sizes, and had a whole lot of fun in the sun,” said event organiser Lee-Ann Kerr.

“The dog walk, the agility display, the doggy dancing and the stalls, all formed a wonderful get-together that is definitely going to become an annual event.”

The look-alike competition was won by Shane Durrant and Buster. With their matching red caps, it was hard to tell them apart.

The best-dressed competition was won by Bethan Martell’s dog Josi, who wore a big red and orange outfit.
