Special farewell to SPCA Randburg general manager

Craig Rudman said that it was not easy at the beginning, but he has upgraded the organisation, kept it running in trying times and they employed more people.

SPCA Randburg bid farewell to their general manager Craig Rudman on his last day in office.

It was a day full of mixed emotions as the staff expressed their gratitude and wished Rudman well.

Craig Rudman contributed 10 years of his life as the general manager of the SPCA. “I’ve been here just over 10 years and they have been probably the best 10 years of my life. Now it is time to move on. I’m getting older and getting more tired and it’s time to move on to enjoying life, to carry on and be with my family, spend more time with them, and go travelling and enjoying it.”

The SPCA held a small intimate gathering to officially say their goodbyes to their manager.

Thembi Ngidi of the SPCA said that she is going to miss Craig as her boss and for the kind of a person he is. “He feels for everyone, for me, it was so good working with him. He taught me to not be angry if I made a mistake and to learn from them and I will miss that about him.

“I do not know where he is going but wherever he goes I wish him well and I will always miss him,” Ngidi told Randburg Sun.

Rudman said that his staff and he got on very well. “We became more like a family than anything else. If someone was in trouble my door was always open, they can come and talk to me. We did not let things build up to a catastrophe.”

He explained that being a good manager and being there for the staff helps build a strong bond. “I always say that a company can’t exist without the staff. Make your priority and they will look after you. Instead of me sitting at the top of the tree, I put the staff at the top and I am ready to catch them when they fall. When I do start climbing and I reach the top I always put my hand down to bring them back up and never let them fall after all we are all humans.”

Kennel manager Cynthia Bezuidenhout said that she will miss Craig dearly. “I have worked with him for the past seven years we have a nice friendship with each other. He has honestly been like a father figure here and I will honestly miss being together here because he is honestly a great man.”

“I wish him well with whatever adventures he will take, and I hope he does not forget about us, and we will still have continuous communication,” said Bezuidenhout.

Rudman said, “I’m going to miss the family here, there have been a lot of good times and a lot of bad times, but I focus on the good times more than the bad times.

He added that he hopes the SPCA will carry on despite the economy and how things are. ” I just hope that it stays alive and carries on. That is my legacy. I brought it this far and the next person needs to take it further.”
