Randpark Ridge Village Association’s Care Committee is here to help
RRVA members do a trauma counselling course to help when community members are involved in accidents, crimes or emergencies.
When you have just suffered the trauma of a robbery, a car accident, sickness in the family or loss, having supportive people with you makes all the difference.
This is why members of a residents association took it upon themselves to complete a trauma counselling course and volunteer to visit the homes of community members in need.
Randpark Ridge Village Association’s (RRVA) Care Committee recently did the course through Flomotion and were awarded certificates for this. “Recently a man waited for hours for an ambulance after a stroke, and we were there to help,” association chairperson Quinton Robbertze explained.
“There is one family with a child with leukaemia and we help with food packages. We give supper to people after a burglary as they often do not have the time or energy to deal with everything. The little things really help.”
Beyond that, the group of Good Samaritans have learnt in their experiences and in the course how to offer emotional support to those going through trauma.
