Meet: Fontainebleau resident Mmapula Mmako
The only things that are wrong with Fontainebleau are cable theft and homelessness.
Mmapula Mmako is a people person and active community member, through and through.
The Fontainebleau resident owns her own stationery company, supplying the likes of VFS and other businesses. So, forming friendships and business networks is natural for her.
“I have been in Fontainebleau for 18 years and I love the area,” she said. “It is very safe, though recently there has been some cable theft around the area. There are also some homeless people living in Fontainebleau Park and that makes people feel unsafe walking in the street.”

She said this affects local businesses as fewer people are inclined to go to shops when there are homeless people across the street. “So, the area has great businesses and shops, but they are affected by this, especially at night.” Mmako wishes something could be done for the homeless.
“Otherwise, it is very safe. My friends and I walk to Randpark Golf Club, where we go to the driving range. The club is lovely, and it has everything, weddings, events, parties.”
She said living in Fontainebleau is also nice because it is central. “We are right by Randburg Sports Complex where children can go play sports and run around the large field there.”
When not working she loves to join her friends for a game of bowls at any of Joburg’s clubs, though she primarily plays out of Linden Bowling Club.
“I chose Linden because there have been a number of Springboks. The club has a number of quality bowlers and we have helped each other achieve success. I was part of the team that won a gold medal at the Johannesburg Bowls Association fours tournament and silver for Gauteng at provincials last year.”
