WCSS spends Mandela Day feeding the underprivileged
WCSS spends its Mandela Day giving back to the communities by being part of the Mandela Day Linden Youth Desk project
Mandela Day is all about giving back to the community and making a difference.
In the spirit of Mandela Day, Windsor Community Support Services (WCSS) joined forces with Linden police, CPF, and residents of the town and neighbouring areas to prepare and give thousands of sandwiches to schools, crèches, shelters, and families in need.
The WCSS community liaison manager Mathabo Bekimbia-Tchoffo said that other NGOs and members of the community brought in sliced loaves of bread and they volunteered to take part in making sandwiches.

“This is our way of showing support to the SAPS for the great work they’re doing for our community. We all about helping communities in need, when we heard about this initiative we jumped in to assist.”
She said they were given over 300 loaves of bread on which to spread butter, peanut butter and jam to prepare sandwiches.

What began as a 10 000 target resulted in 35 000 sandwiches being prepared and donated to various schools and other persons in need.
“Families in need managed to get some bread that might last them three to four days. We all know that a loaf of bread cost R19 – it’s a lot of money for families that are depending on pension or grant money.

“The feeding scheme in Robinhills managed to feed more kids as well. We are really glad that we were part of the initiative.”
