Velocity FA beefs up the squads for new season

Velocity Football Academy founder Aidan de Smidt confirmed that there will be a scholarship offered to two players per age group that will be selected in the trials.

Velocity Football Academy will be hosting trials for the seniors and U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions on January 20, at Ferndale High School.

The club is looking to create title-challenging teams in all their age groups. They will be playing in a much tougher league this coming season – a new Championship Development League that is highly rated and similar to the Gauteng Development League.

The ladies, U11 and seniors’ trials will be on January 27, at the Brescia House School. The players are urged to bring their own playing tools, boots, shirts, and water and carry their birth certificates and ID copies or passports.

Velocity coach Aidan de Smidt explained that the main purpose for these trials is for new talent to come through and for them to recognise the other talent that is out there.

“We will try and accept as many players as possible in the academy and also encourage others to take other programmes that the academy offers. We will play in the new league and we want to compete as well.”

Smidt added that they also understand that it is not all about winning but developing and growing the academy and players so they can achieve their goals in football.

He advises local players to come prepared and not to be scared when playing. “Just come and be yourselves; don’t be an individual; work as a team; communicate and listen to other players. We will look for good skills and touches – we want players who are coachable and hungry. If you are willing to learn and grow as a player, come and show us what you’ve got.”
