Water polo stars shine at Saints Water Polo Invitational 2024
In a vibrant showcase of talent, the Saints Invitational saw water polo players battle it out, celebrating the sport's growth and youth involvement.
The Saints Water Polo Invitational 2024 marked its 30th anniversary with an electrifying event held at St Stithians College.
The competition, known for showcasing top-tier talent, drew more than 560 players from 40 teams across the country. This year’s event saw remarkable attendance, with thousands of supporters gathering to watch some of the nation’s best young water polo athletes.

The invitational ran for four days, bringing thrilling matches and a display of sportsmanship. In the senior girls final, Roedean School (Gauteng) clinched victory, edging out Reddam House Bedfordview with a score of 9–6. This win highlighted Roedean’s consistency in the sport, further establishing them as formidable contenders in water polo. The boys’ final delivered equally intense action as Kearsney College from KZN overcame Cape Town’s Bishops Diocesan College in a high-scoring match that ended 17–14. This triumph was particularly significant for Kearsney, as they showcased exceptional teamwork and resilience.

Aside from the competitive matches, the event also celebrated individual and team achievements with medals and awards. Despite a sudden storm on the final day, which required a quick venue shift, the closing ceremony continued smoothly, honouring the athletes and teams who excelled.
