Members of the Linden Community Policing Forum (CPF) and People 4 Purpose were among the organisations that assisted on the day. Several schools participated, including Ritah Preschool from Windsor East, Little Sunshine Christian Daycare, and Little Brainiacs Nursery and Aftercare. High school learners from Abbotts College Northcliff and The King’s School Robin Hill also volunteered, lending a helping hand to ensure the event ran smoothly.

The day began with a road safety demonstration by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) communication outreach officer Vogan Ebrahim. He taught the children how to cross the road safely and highlighted the importance of wearing seatbelts. “Kids must learn these safety tips so they can spread the word and remind their parents, maybe to put on their seatbelts or keep their hands off their phones,” he said.

Safety instructors Roscoe and Sharon Stephen, from Fellowship Through Fitness, followed with an anti-kidnapping safety session. They equipped the children with vital skills to help them stay safe in potentially dangerous situations.

The children were then split into four teams, each with a captain who was tasked with choosing a team name. Their creativity shone through as they came up with names like Joburg Rangers, Ronaldo, Exercise, and Mbappé. The teams enjoyed a variety of games, including soccer and ball games, while others relaxed with colouring activities.

The event was a success, with learners not only having fun but also gaining valuable knowledge about road safety and personal security. Linden SAPS and their partners demonstrated how education can be engaging, ensuring that children take away lessons they can use in their daily lives.
