The Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) U12 division top of the table clash lived up to expectations, as the youngsters displayed quality football.
Both teams went to the game equal on points after 3 matches. The Blue Army, with the home advantage, started the game sloppy, with the visitors applying high pressure, and getting to the opponent’s box with ease. Newclare were using their right flank, operated by the speedy and skilful Ihlaan Patel. The winger was causing all sort of troubles for the hosts, but could not break their defence.
Both teams created opportunities, but it was Abelokuhle Tau’s strike that decided the game, winning all three points for the home side.
The visitors made a few changes in the second half, but could not get an equaliser. Randburg did not just sit back and defend their lead. They made a few attacking changes and were looking dangerous whenever they had the ball in the visitor’s half.
Randburg’s Hluma Qayi found the back of the net, but his beautiful volley strike was ruled out for offside. Newclare goalkeeper Elana Gqibisa made some top saves to keep his side in the game, but, unfortunately, the visitors could not find the equaliser they desperately needed.

Zahier Hamid, Newclare coach, explained that the boys tried their best, however, didn’t come out with a win. They will shake it off and try to be better with the next game. “There’s a lot that, from the player side, needs to be done. A lot of fitness work, as well and ball work. So, that is what we’re going to be working on as soon as we get back to training.”
He added that they had a good game, but they did not take their chances. The loss will hit them a bit hard, since it is the first of their season.
Randburg remains unbeaten and will be looking to keep the momentum going in the next games. Randburg coach Malusi Jali admitted that it was a tough game, with each team having really good chances. “We managed to get a single goal, and it turned out to be the winner. I’m very happy with the team. I think, before the match, we almost underestimated their goalkeeper, because we’ve seen previous results, and they tend to leak a lot of goals, but he was just unbelievable.”
He added that this brings a lot of confidence to the boys and makes them want to keep coming back and training harder, so they can push for the title.
