Exposed power cable jolts Fontainebleau resident
Despite multiple site visits, Manfred Mullers says City Power has failed to secure or permanently repair the unsafe cable near the Randpark Golf Course, causing risk.
A dangerous and exposed main power cable, at River Road, off Cooper Avenue, in Fontainebleau, near the Randpark Golf Course, has been reported by Manfred Mullers.
Mullers says the cable, which supplies temporary electricity, has been in place for nearly two years and is not properly secured. He explained that the cable runs from a power box located outside the property, across open space, and into a box mounted on the wall of the house. He believes this poses a serious safety risk.

According to Mullers, the issue has been reported several times to City Power. He said different officials have visited the property over time, inspected the cable, and promised to return with the correct materials to fix the problem permanently. “They always say they will follow up and come back, but nothing happens. People come, they look, they agree it is a problem, and then they disappear.”

He added that he has received calls from different City Power representatives, including someone he believes may be a city manager, who assured him assistance would be sent. While technicians did arrive, no lasting repair was carried out.
Furthermore, Mullers was also told recently by a representative that he should bring in a private electrician to fix it. “How can I be responsible for something that is not even on my property and that I cannot fix myself?”

He said he has lived at the property for 48 years and has never before had to deal with a power cable he does not control. He also stated that City Power has been aware of the problem for a long time and has repaired it temporarily in the past, only for the same issue to return.

The ongoing situation has left Mullers frustrated and stressed. He said his emails to City Power have gone unanswered and that the lack of clear communication has made the situation worse. “Two years is a very long time to deal with the same problem.”
Mullers believes the matter has now become urgent and can no longer be treated as a minor issue. He said he has tried to be patient and understanding, especially over the festive season, but feels that enough time has passed. “This is not acceptable service. It is not safe, and there must be a solution.”
The Randburg Sun approached City Power for comment regarding the exposed cable and the delay in completing a permanent repair. At the time of publication, no response had been received.
