Local boxer hopes for title shot after a perfect 2025
Tyla Promnick, a local boxer trained by Alan Toweel in Linden, is ready to continue where she left off.
Local boxer Tyla Promnick stormed through 2025 with an unforgettable run, winning all four of her fights in dominant fashion and announcing herself as one of boxing’s rising forces.
As the new year approaches, she’s locked in, focused, and ready to elevate her career to the next level. Now, with her sights set firmly on a title shot, Tyla steps forward with momentum, confidence, and a hunger for gold.

The talented young boxer ended the year with a bang, securing a 4-0 victory against a tough opponent and maintaining a high knockout streak, cementing herself as one of the faces of female boxing in South Africa.

She said her fourth fight against Noxolo Magagula best represents her growth as a boxer. She said that out of all her opponents, she was the most aggressive, coming forward and throwing far more than previous opponents. “Being able to stand my own against her made me realise that I can fight not only against easy opponents but against those who actually challenge me in the ring.”
Although 2025 was her best year, Tyla went through quite a tough year mentally. She had self-doubt, low self-confidence issues, not necessarily in the ring but in her personal life.
“I’ve been through a lot in my life, and even though it has made me who I am as a person, I have healed from it. I think as a female boxer we are taught to be always tough but at the end of the day I am still a lady, and once in a while, women need to be reminded that as tough as they are in and out of the ring, it’s okay to be sensitive now and again, it’s all about how you overcome it.”
There is no doubt that Tyla’s confidence skyrocketed in 2025, proving not only to others but to herself day in and out that she could come out on top regardless of who was in front of her.

With that, her boxing skills have improved drastically. She said every camp they levelled up the training and intensity. “I levelled up as a boxer, remained more focused, listened to my team, and trusted the process that made the biggest difference.
“I am definitely a lot calmer in the ring. Beforehand, if my opponent would brawl, I would brawl, if they slugged, I would slug, I would fight their fight, but I realised that the calmer I am, I can outbox every single one of them and get them to play my game where I make the rules and I dictate the pace.”

The support she gets from her team played a big role in her achievements.
“My team plays a big role because even though I trust myself, I trust them even more. But no one helps me more than God,” she said. “My family and my team keep me grounded. I know they always have my back, always believe in me, and keep me focused, calm, and in control.”
In the new year, the boxer hopes to continue to prove to herself and everyone else what she can do. She stated that her goal is to keep growing and have more confidence in herself, and work harder than ever.
“I want to shake the ground and make waves this year. I will make my name known in every household, and I can’t wait to show people what the real Duracell Bunny can do.”
Tyla is back at training and is preparing for her first fight in February. She is also hoping to get a title shot by the end of the year.
