Local boxer’s numbers keep going up

Young, talented boxer Tyla Promnick got another victory in a challenging bout against Noxolo Magagula.

Under the watchful eye of Alan Toweel in Linden, young boxer Tyla Promnick faced Noxolo Magagula in a four-round strawweight bout at Emperors Palace on August 8.

Promnick returned to the palace of dreams after three consecutive technical knock-out (TKO) victories. This time, she won on points, after dropping Magagula in the first round of the fight under the Golden Gloves.

She explained that, with her team, they try to elevate themselves every time they step into the ring, and this time was no different. “We go into every fight knowing the opponent is going to come packing a punch. Our plan is to always adjust to our opponent, put on a show, and look good doing it.”

This fight was definitely a welcome challenge for her. It was Promnick’s first time going the distance and facing an opponent who stepped to her. “I didn’t get the knockout I believe I could have. To face a challenging opponent, and to know that I can still come out on top, is definitely a boost of confidence for me. It was a tough fight, but I was tougher, and at the end of the day, I’m just grateful for the win.”

Promnick added that she is proud of the results, but that this is just another stepping stone to bigger things in her career. “I am grateful for every victory I get. I do, however, believe I could have done so much better, especially when it came to my defence.”
