Investigations underway into killing of man in Windsor during drug raid
SAPS have started investigations into the killing of Emeka Uzor, and involvement of Xolani Khumalo, TV star and ActionSA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate.
Following the murder of Emeka Uzor in Windsor East, Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that a case of murder has been registered, and investigations are underway.
Uzor was shot during an anti-drug raid led by Xolani Khumalo, who is famously known for his drug bust TV show and is also the ActionSA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate.
Sibeko said that the public order police were called to the scene to restore order following the shooting incident. “The investigation showed that there was a production company filming in the area, and that there were shots fired, allegedly by the production team’s security. The said production team then went to the police station when a group of people started to protest. A case of murder has been registered, and investigation are underway, but no one has been arrested yet.”

Spokesperson for the mayoral candidate Siyanda Makhuba confirmed Khumalo’s presence, and explained that, during the raid, an alteration took place and a shootout transpired. A statement shedding light on the incident and its implications for drug syndicates and the rule of law in crime fighting, was later released by ActionSA. “For too long drug syndicates have terrorised our communities through violence, intimidation, and total disregard for the law.” They promised to continue supporting every decisive and lawful measure to dismantle this scourge, and to confront the violent resistance of criminals who have grown comfortable believing they are untouchable.

The incident has since spark rage, with people on social media showing frustration over the influx of foreigners into the country, while others condemned the killings of foreign nationals.

The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) sent a strong message to the South African government, particularly the minister of police and the national commissioner of the South African Police Service, to conduct a thorough investigation into Uzor’s case.
A statement by the president of NUSA, Smart Nwobi, claimed that Uzor was executed, assassination style, with over 12 bullets while seated in his parked vehicle. NUSA condemns Khumalo’s subsequent media statement, saying such statements are not only careless and irresponsible, but deeply inhumane and barbaric, showing profound disrespect for the sanctity of human life.
Nwobi urged the Nigerian community in South Africa to remain calm and law-abiding during this difficult period. “Rest assured, we are working tirelessly with relevant authorities to ensure justice prevails.”
