Enormous trench in Blairgowrie filled with sand, but reinstatement is still to be done

The municipality spokespeople have confirmed the reinstatement of the road will start on January 30.

What was an immense trench in Blairgowrie, has recently been filled with sand and will hopefully soon be resurfaced.

This was after a burst water pipe destroyed the road surface on the corner of Barkston Drive and Mackay Avenue/Grove Street – a major thoroughfare.

A huge hole had been left in the road, completely blocking the Mackay Avenue side from where it becomes Grove Street, for about a month.

“JRA can confirm that it is within the ambit of Joburg Water with whom we have followed up,” said Joburg Roads Agency spokesperson Kelebogile Mafa.

That water utility’s spokesperson Puleng Mopeli said wayleave applications for the reinstatement were submitted by contractors to the roads agency only on January 24.

The intersection that was the site of an enormous hole has been filled with sand.

“Approval was given and contractors [will] start on Monday, Jan 30 with Blairgowrie, then Parktown North, Parkhurst and Craighall,” she said.
