The Golden Years Social Club embraces Christmas spirit

Spreading festive cheer, The Golden Years Social Club is hosting their Christmas market, celebrating unity, giving back, and creating lasting connections in the community.

The festive spirit is alive and thriving at The Golden Years Social Club, a community haven that embodies the joy, connection, and giving heart of the Christmas season. Founded by Candice Patchappen and brought to life by her dedicated team, the club has become a beacon of hope for the elderly, offering a vibrant and social alternative to isolation.

In October, the club celebrated a significant milestone with its grand opening. The event was a culmination of hard work, passion, and the support of friends, family, and the community. According to Peyton Patchappen, who plays a multifaceted role in the organisation, their goal has always been to create a space that uplifts and unites people.

Reflecting on the year, Peyton shared some highlights, including their popular themed socials such as the 50s to 70s Dance, the 80s and 90s Night, and memorable gatherings like movie nights and birthday celebrations. “These events were more than just parties; they were moments where laughter, stories, and connections flourished,” Peyton said.

As Christmas approaches, the team is gearing up for their most significant initiative yet: A Christmas market on December 15 in collaboration with Second Chance Charity. The proceeds from this event will benefit the broader community, exemplifying the spirit of giving. The market will also feature Christmas carols and a festive social and dance, bringing together attendees in a celebration of joy and unity.

Despite its achievements, the club faced challenges in 2024, particularly misconceptions about its purpose. “Many people think we’re an old-age home or frail care, but we are so much more a place of new beginnings, laughter, and community,” Peyton explained.

Her Christmas wish for the community is profound: “Believe in the good in others, never give up, and cherish every moment. Just like snowflakes, we are all unique, but we are all equal and valuable.”

As they prepare for the Christmas market, the team at The Golden Years Social Club is inviting everyone to join them, celebrate the festive season, and embrace the message of hope and togetherness.
