Rand Park High’s debutantes and squires raise over R635 000

Members of the debutantes and squires programme at Rand Park High went above and beyond, raising R635 000 through events like raffles and markets, culminating in an unforgettable debutantes and squires ball.

Rand Park High School recently celebrated the remarkable fundraising efforts of its 2025 debutantes and squires, who collectively raised more than R635 000 for the school.

The debutantes and squires programme is an annual voluntary initiative open to Grade 10 learners. Participants take on the challenge of raising funds through various activities, such as golf days, markets, raffles, restaurant shadow servings, and ticket sales for stage performances.

Their efforts culminate in a grand ball, where top fundraisers are recognised, and all involved are celebrated for their hard work.

For those unfamiliar with the terms, a ‘debutante’ is traditionally a young woman introduced to society, while a ‘squire’ refers to a young man taking on a role of service and leadership. At Rand Park, these titles are given to learners who dedicate themselves to supporting the school through fundraising and community service.

This year, 49 learners, and their families, took part in the programme. The top fundraisers of 2025 were:

  • Top debutante: Carmen Smith – R101 675.76
  • Top squire: Jaryd Jameson – R82 204.68
  • Gavin Moller – R69 633.60
  • Connor Willemse – R55 422.48
  • Georgia Thackeray – R36 227.71
  • Kaylee Parsuram – R32 500.00
  • Dharmika Naidoo – R31 163.00
  • Alana Mitton – R24 850.63

Learners also had the option to work in groups, and this year’s top group: Georgia Thackeray, Alana Mitton, and Carmen Smith, raised an impressive R58 664.47.

Rand Park High School principal Alan Wilke commended the learners for their dedication. “We are very grateful for the funds that have been raised and extend a special thank you to the parents and staff for supporting, guiding, and keeping the learners motivated through the year.”

A special tribute was also paid to Jenny van Rensburg, an educator who has co-ordinated the programme since 1998. Having helped raise a staggering R8.5m for the school over the years, she will retire at the end of 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment.

The debutantes and squires programme continues to be a shining example of community spirit, leadership, and dedication among Rand Park High learners.
