Residents of Summerfield Park marked Heritage Day with a lively celebration that brought together culture, community, and plenty of cheer.

The day began with a spirited 1km walk around the village. Residents and staff took part, side by side, sharing smiles, stories, and encouragement along the route. The walk created a strong sense of unity, with many saying it was a meaningful way to honour South Africa’s diverse heritage.

Afterwards, the festivities continued, with vibrant entertainment from the Summerfield staff. Their energetic dance performances had the crowd clapping and cheering along, adding to the joyful atmosphere.

No Heritage Day is complete without food, and this year’s menu carried a special twist. Residents tucked into hearty boerewors rolls, with the choice of toppings reflecting the cultural mix within the community. Alongside traditional South African chakalaka, they could opt for Greek tzatziki or a rich German tomato sauce.

Village manager Lee-Anne Benny said the day was about more than just food and entertainment. “Heritage Day reminds us to celebrate our traditions while also appreciating the rich diversity that makes our community so special.”
