Ward 99 councillor Hendrik Bodenstein has shared his New Year’s message with residents, outlining his priorities for 2026 and encouraging the community to stay involved in local improvement efforts.
Bodenstein said the new year brings a renewed sense of purpose as the ward continues working to address service delivery challenges and strengthen community structures.
“Johannesburg tests us every day, but our people keep pushing forward with grit and optimism. That’s why we believe in Johannesburg.”

Looking ahead, he plans to focus on improving responsiveness across key services, increasing community-led projects, and expanding co-operation with local organisations, such as residents’ associations (RA) and Community Policing Forums (CPF).
“We want to grow our volunteer base and prepare Ward 99 for a successful, high-participation 2026 local government election.”
Bodenstein said he is encouraged by the progress made in 2025, especially in Linden, which recently received global recognition. He hopes to build on this momentum in the new year. “I’m looking forward to cleaner streets, safer public spaces, and stronger networks across the ward. Residents deserve to see visible progress.”
He also highlighted several ways for people to get involved, saying active citizenship will be essential in 2026. “Join your street or block group, RA, CPF or park group. Volunteer for clean-ups, attend meetings, report issues correctly, and stay informed.”

He added that residents can also support the local DA branch, noting that community participation and voting will play an important role in shaping the ward’s future.
In his message to the community, Bodenstein stressed the importance of working together.
“This year is our chance to aim higher and work smarter. We will keep showing Johannesburg what becomes possible when a united community steps forward.”
He ended with a message of confidence in the residents he serves: “I believe in this ward, and I believe in its people. Together, we can build a ward that leads by example.”
