The strong turnout highlights just how important, and relevant, this topic is within the community. “Our inspiration is to ensure our most vulnerable are being kept safe from scams, and to help them not to be caught out by scammers.”

The session focused on educating the elderly residents about online and banking fraud, shedding light on common scams, key warning signs, and the situations where people are most often caught off guard.

With fraud incidents continuing to rise, awareness and knowledge remain the strongest tools for prevention. “Unfortunately, there are constant cases that are being reported within the Honeydew policing precinct, and most of the time our elderly are involved.

They are the most vulnerable, as many times it’s technology dependent, and they are not that clued up. These scammers are professionals at what they do and can be very convincing.”

He thanked the Honeydew SAPS for their involvement in the informative and empowering talk.

“Their guidance and expertise played a vital role in helping our residents stay vigilant and protected. Also, a special thanks to Pick n Pay at Summerfields for the snack platters and the Tin Road Church for the use of their premises, crockery, and cutlery.”

Residents are advised to keep an eye out for more fraud awareness talks coming to other areas, as the CPF continue its commitment to keeping the community informed and safe.
