Randpark Ridge residents unite to clean up Hymany Dam

Hymany Dam in Randpark Ridge gets much-needed clean-up from the residents

Randpark Ridge residents recently gathered for a clean-up project at Hymany Dam to safeguard the local outdoor space.

Organised by the Randpark Ridge Village Association, the initiative brought community members together to help restore the dam and its surroundings.

Clean-up organiser Angie Steyn said that the turnout was good and a lot of good work was done.

“The people came, and it was a good community initiative,” said Steyn. “We do it for the interest of the community. We wanted to clean up for our fishing habitat and for the ducks.”

She added that discarded fishing line and plastic bottles pollute the water.

“We’ve had ducks being injured or even worse, killed by fishing lines. But the community has really put together a good turnout.”

Hymany Dam serves as a popular retreat for residents to unwind, enjoy nature and spend time with family.

For many, it also offers an opportunity to fish and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Preserving the area remains essential to maintaining its appeal.
