Local SPCA grateful to residents

Randburg SPCA's Cynthia Bezuidenhout said her wish for Christmas is for all the animals to find homes.

Randburg SPCA’s Cynthia Bezuidenhout thanked the community for always supporting them with their needs.

She said their highlight of the year was the amount of community members helping them and giving back. From monetary donations to donations for the book shop and two charity shops.

“By donating to our society, you are helping us by keeping our doors open. We are inundated with animals, especially this time of year, and every bit helps.

“Thank you to the community for always stepping up, for calling us when you see something that is not right, and for always thinking of us when we need food or bedding, or whatever we ask for on our socials. We are always so grateful to the community.”

She added that one of her highlights included the amazing staff walking over 5km to rescue cows stuck in the road and walking them back to the SPCA in the middle of the night.

The cost of looking after so many animals on a daily basis remains the biggest challenge to the SPCA. Bezuidenhout said they can’t say no to animals coming in, even when their kennels are full.

“We will never say no, but with the number of animals coming in, the vet visits, food, bedding, it all adds to the costs. It’s a sad reality.”

She wishes that all the animals find homes and be treated with love and respect.
