Comrades Marathon is one of the most gruelling road races in Africa and EasyEquities Born2Run sent 135 members to compete over this past weekend, 10 June.
The 90 km race which a ‘down run’ started at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finished in Durban at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
EasyEquities Born2Run chairperson David Coetzee was pleased with his club’s results at the Comrades and termed it a special race.
“There is nothing like the Comrades Marathon, it is a challenge that is not easy to overcome,” said Coetzee.
“Most races around the world are about the elite runners but for Comrades, it’s for the people. If you look at the crowds, more people tend to come and watch the stragglers that show courage and heart, not the elites.”
Coetzee also added that the Comrades is a true test of character and that with enough training, everyone can participate.
“Between the 55 and 60km mark, it feels like someone has run over you with a truck. But that is where you get up, dust yourself off and you continue for the next 30km. It is a race only one
per cent gets to do and that is why it is a special race that has character. It is a race that most people have on their bucket list.”
