Local young wrestler Bryson Lubbe dominates the South African National Championship

The 11-year-old wrestler from Linden shines at the South African National Championship, taking home three gold medals.

Young wrestler Bryson Lubbe (11), from Linden, has shocked the wrestling community after achieving remarkable results at the South African National Championship.

The talented wrestler recently scooped three gold medals in the U11 category in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. He completed the hat-trick in Greco-Roman in the U13 category.

Bryson has been wrestling for two years now, but has seen tremendous improvement and growth. In July, he also won Judo South Africa (U11) at the University of Pretoria.

The young athlete explained that he feels really proud and that all the hard work, discipline and perseverance paid off.

“It feels amazing to see what I’ve achieved. It was tough but really fun. I stayed focused, gave my best in every match and didn’t give up, even when it got hard.”

He said that his wrestling journey has been full of ups and downs, but he’s learning a lot.

“Wrestling taught me discipline, respect, and to keep going no matter what. These victories show that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. It makes me want to train even harder.”

He added that he hopes to represent South Africa one day, even at the Olympics. “I just want to keep improving and never stop working hard.”
