Prepare for Friday’s water shutdown, warns Rand West City

Residents are urged to store water ahead of a planned 12-hour interruption this Friday, as Rand Water and Eskom carry out critical maintenance on key water supply systems.

Residents in Rand West City are urged to prepare for a full-day water interruption after Rand West City Local Municipality confirmed scheduled maintenance by Rand Water and Eskom.

The planned maintenance will take place on Friday, July 17, with the water supply expected to be interrupted from 07:00 to 19:00.

According to municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, the work forms part of Phase 2 maintenance on the Palmiet and Zuikerbosch Water Systems, which are key bulk water supply systems serving large parts of Gauteng.

Residents in affected areas should expect little to no water during this period and are encouraged to prepare in advance by storing enough water for drinking, cooking and sanitation.

Montshiwa also confirmed that water tankers will be readily available to supply affected communities. The municipality emphasised that the maintenance is essential to ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of the water supply infrastructure.

Consumers are further advised to use water sparingly once the supply is restored, as the system may take time to stabilise.

The municipality will provide updates should there be any changes to the maintenance schedule.
