LETTER: Could you (traffic police) do your job?
Another resident has written a letter addressed to the local traffic chief regarding lawlessness on the roads.

I refer to the letter published in the Randfontein Herald dated February 23 with the headline Why not just scrap all traffic laws, Mr Chief?
Well done to the newspaper for publishing this letter and good luck trying to smoke the chief out of his office. I feel he and his officers are a disgrace to their uniform.
They willfully and knowingly allow overloaded trucks to jump red lights and stop streets in town. Northway Road, used by thousands of learners, is like a race track for overloaded trucks transporting chemicals, gas, and fuel.
And no speed pumps, or speed cameras nothing … why not? And why are your police cars always hanging around Krugersdorp, or famous fast-food chains and roadhouses?
And why are the approach roads to Randfontein treated like toll roads? Large trucks are stopped momentarily and I have a feeling there is an exchange of ‘something’ and away the trucks go flat out into town.
Could you (the traffic police) do your job or at least look like you are trying? The long-distance taxi drivers reckon the traffic department is untrustworthy.
The Randfontein Herald has approached and allowed Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo to comment within 48 hours. Although he did acknowledge the letter, he said he would duly respond to the anonymous writer at an appropriate time. The Herald will publish his response once it has been received – Ed.
