Another accident on the Main Road

The driver of a Peugot was trying to avoid driving into a truck that is said to have skipped a red traffic light.

A massive accident between a Peugeot and Ford Ikon occurred on the corner of Main Road and the Randfontein Road and brought traffic to a standstill.

This was on 27 November at approximately 5pm.

At the time of the incident, it is understood that the driver of the Peugeot was traveling from Kenneth Road towards the Randfontein Road when she smashed into the Ford Ikon.

At the scene, an eye witness said that the woman had tried to avoid colliding with a truck which had skipped a red traffic light.

“While the woman driving the Peugot managed to avoid driving into the truck by swerving away from its direction, she subsequently smashed into the Ford Ikon.

“The Ford was traveling from the direction of Krugersdorp towards the Main Road,” says the man.

Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo says that he is yet to liaise with the relevant traffic officer who was at the scene to establish the exact cause of the accident.

He says that thus far, he is of the knowledge that no serious injuries were sustained by any of the motorists and condemns the level of ignorance of road signs and traffic lights by motorists.

“It is rather disappointing that we still have motorists who disregard road signs and traffic lights.

“It is clear as day that those things are there for a reason and that is not to be ignored,” says Mampondo.

He adds that in most cases, accidents that occur could have been avoided had motorists exercised their patience

“People need to understand the concept that it is rather better to arrive late than never arrive at all,” says Mampondo.
