‘Out of control’ car crashes near school

Residents are concerned about the incident and said a child could've been run over.

Friday afternoon (15 May) saw two collisions occurring in Randfontein – the first and most concerning occurred near Laerskool Randfontein (Ram) and the other in Greenhills involving an elderly woman.

The first collision occurred at the back end of RAM on the corner of Freda Avenue and Ewart Road.

According to an eyewitness, Trevor Verster and driver of a black BMW, “A red Citroën overtook me on the inside of a corner and went crashing into a street light pole.”

The front of the Citroën was crumpled where it had hit the pole. The BMW had little damage.

A team from the Randfontein Local Municipality’s electricity department had to be called out to safely switch off the power so that the wreckage could be removed.

Residents are concerned about the incident and said a child could’ve been run over. They demand speed bumps.

Just after the electricity department arrived, another collision occurred on the corner of Kenneth Road and Tambotie Street in Greenhills. A white bakkie hit an elderly woman’s car on its right side. The woman’s car allegedly spun and did almost a 180 degree turn before coming to a halt.

Fortunately, none of the motorists involved in either accidents were injured seriously.
