2018 school year applications – You only have till midnight

Online admission system for late applicants for 2018 school year drawing to a close warns GDE.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) reminds parents that they only have one day left to apply for late admissions for the 2018 school year.

The online admission application system opened for late applications at 8am on Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and will close at midnight on Friday, 10 November 2017.

“The system was opened to give parents who missed the 12 June deadline an opportunity to apply. No new applications will be processed in January 2018, as Gauteng schools are full.

The system is running smoothly and once again, we urge parents who have not yet applied, to urgently log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za and apply before midnight tonight,” Steve Mabona, the GDE spokesperson said in a statement.

“Parents who applied during the admissions period in May, who still have not been placed, are urged to visit the district office for placement or email us on gdeinfo@gauteng.gov.za for urgent assistance. These parents need not re-apply as their details are already on the system.”

Mabona continued, “Parents are also hereby reminded that several of our schools are full and cannot accept any more learners. There are 2 017 public ordinary schools that offer Grades 1 and 8. It must be noted that 402 of these schools received applications beyond their school capacity and will not be available to parents who submit late applications.”

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education MEC added, “The Department has plans to ensure that all applicants that applied on time are placed. Once more, we thank the people of Gauteng for their overwhelming response to our call to utilise the online application system.”
