Residents and business owners on Kremetart Avenue in Homelake are at their wits’ end as they are faced with constant sewage issues.
The disgruntled residents said the situation has made the area uninhabitable.

The Herald visited the site on Tuesday and was informed that it has been as long as four years that they have had to live under these conditions. The constant bad odour and threat to their health is something that they still cannot get used to.
“We have been dealing with this for far too long. It’s as if no one wants to come and help us. People simply read our WhatsApp messages and keep quite. Whenever one of us reports the issue, we are given a reference number, but it all just ends there,” said Johanna Biermann, one of the residents.

Paul De Jesus, one of the business owners, added that the situation is bad for business.
“The sewage seeps in through the back because behind it I don’t have a solid door. A big part of my store is affected. When customers walk in here it stinks,” De Jesus said.
Another business owner who wished to remain anonymous said since his business is selling food products, he has lost many customers.
“This is not right, people cannot live like this. It’s upsetting, because we are law-abiding citizens who pay our rates and taxes but are robbed of services. We were planning to start a day care centre, but people are definitely not going to send their children here when the place looks and smells like this,” Biermann added.
