My six-year water leak! – Finsbury resident

'When you arrive in our street, you'll see clean water running down the road; clean water that many people out there need' – resident.

A Finsbury property owner said she is now at her wits’ ends with a water meter that has been leaking for six years.

Boki Pule, who claims she has been sent from pillar to post, said she has reported the matter countless times, to no avail.

“I’ve seen many municipal employees come to my property without offering any solution. I still sit with the problem,” she said.

Boki Pule said her water meter has been leaking for more than six years. Photo submitted.

They were supposed to install a new meter, she said, but she was then informed that there was no material, adding that one of her neighbours is experiencing the same problem.

We’ve been facing this issue since 2014 and we really don’t know what to do now. When you arrive in our street, you’ll see clean water running down the road; clean water that many people out there need,” Pule said.

Phillip Montshiwa, spokesperson for Rand West City Local Municipality said it depends on what is damaged. If it’s the water meter, it can be replaced.

“However, if it’s a water pipe within a private owner’s property then they’ll have to pay for the damage. We also advise people to visit our offices and explain to the relevant departments what their issues are, so that we can help our residents,” Montshiwa said.
