LISTEN: The new rapper on the block at age 15

Meet Mpumelelo Gift Makoloane, aka Psychotic Gee, who is one of the youngest rappers on the West Rand.

The 15-year-old from Bekkersdal has stepped into the arena of hip hop with a new hit ready to wow music lovers.

The Grade 10 learner at Hoërskool Westonaria High School said while he is currently focused on his studies, he is also sharpening his lyrical weaponry for his rivals in the music game.

On 18 May he dropped his very first Extended Play Record (EP) titled A Journey of A Thousand Mine about the journey he has taken in his life in the entertainment industry – a journey that will mark milestones for him.

“Since I was young I’ve been fascinated by rappers and their art of using words to convey a message to listeners. That became a hobby for me because I started to study and follow a lot of rappers since,” he said.

He added that among those he’s been following are South African rapper A-Reece, and even the late and legendary Notorious B.I.G.

Mpumelelo said from the tender age 11, he started writing down words.

“Although the rhyming was there, I had to find a reason and context in my songs – something I have been working on. I find happiness in music because it’s something that takes my mind off many things. I express all the emotions in my songs and I hope to be one of the best rappers not only on the West Rand, but in the entire South Africa,” he said.
