CIT vehicle targeted on R501: Security guards injured

Two security guards were injured in a cash-in-transit heist on the R501 on Monday.

Two security guards aged 38 and 42 suffered moderate injuries in a cash-in-transit heist on the P111 (R501) in Carletonville on the far West Rand on Monday evening, November 8.

ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said paramedics arrived on scene at about 17:56 along with the Fire and Traffic Departments, police and Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG).

“The two men were found sitting in the bushes away from their vehicle. It is suspected that an explosive device was used to blow open the back of the vehicle.

The two men allegedly had been shot at but luckily none of them were wounded. They were treated for their injuries and transported to a private hospital in the area for further care.”

The police were on scene for further investigations.
