A 26-year-old woman of Randfontein sustained serious injuries when she jumped from a moving taxi. She tried to escape from a man wanting to rape her.
The victim, whose identity cannot be disclosed for her own safety, said it was at around 07:00 on Sunday, January 23 when she boarded a taxi to her home after working night shift.

“I noticed that there were no other passengers in the taxi, probably because it was a Sunday,” the victim said.
She said after she greeted the driver and paid the taxi fare, she was startled when he took off at a high speed. The victim said as he was driving, the driver first took off his shirt with his one hand, and then started undoing his pants.
I was terrified. I grabbed my handbag and jumped out. I could hear him shouting ‘hey, get back to me’. “
When she tumbled onto the tarmac she sustained injuries to her head, hands, feet and her right shoulder. Left disoriented, she couldn’t make out the registration of the vehicle. Passengers from a taxi that was behind the one she escaped from came to her rescue.
“Lord knows what would’ve happened to me if that taxi had not been there for me,” the victim added.
