A 30-year-old man was arrested for discharging an unlicensed firearm in public. The incident happened at the corner of Godlo and Zama Streets in Bekkersdal on Saturday, January 29.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the suspect was arrested after police received complaints about someone allegedly discharging a firearm in a public space.
The police swiftly responded and it was discovered that the suspect did not possess a licence for the firearm. He was arrested immediately for endangering people’s lives and carrying the illegal weapon,” Lefakane said.
The suspect already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 31. The outcome is not yet known.
