Christo Hugo is the new Westgold Primary principal

Christo Hugo has been appointed as the new principal of Laerskool Westgold Primary and is excited about the future.

Laerskool Westgold Primary is proud to welcome their new principal, Christo Hugo.

Christo, 37, is eager to take the school under his wing and make sure that it becomes one of the top schools in the province.

He said he applied for the position of principal at the end of 2021 and was fortunate enough to be invited to an interview.

It was a long and tedious process, but the announcement was made on Monday, February 28 and I will perform the duties of principal as of March 1.”

He explained it’s an enormous honour and privilege to be appointed in this position. He had been involved with Westgold for the past 15 years and he’s very excited about the journey with this special primary school.

Christo had been deputy principal at Westgold since 2015, but being promoted to principal did not mean that he would no longer teach. He is still involved in the classroom where he teaches Social Science to Grade 6s.

When asked what positive changes he was planning at the school, Christo explained that change was inevitable in any institution, but he believed that one should build on previous achievements, and change should be implemented gradually.

The main aim is to have passionate and competent staff who have the best interest of the learners at heart because educators should inspire, motivate, and encourage learners to become the best version of themselves. Laerskool Westgold Primary should be a safe and happy environment for all stakeholders.”

He added that the dream was to make Westgold the best school, “… where each learner is afforded the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of co- and extra-curricular activities, and is developed optimally to prepare our youth (the future of this beautiful country) to make a positive contribution to society and in their respective communities”.
