Police and partners deal criminals a heavy blow

At least 12 illegal immigrants were arrested and fines worth R19 500 were issued during a recent operation conducted in the Westonaria and Bekkersdal policing precincts.

Law enforcement’s latest O Kae Molao operation saw 58 arrests and 20 traffic fines worth R19 500 being issued around the Bekkersdal and Westonaria policing precincts.

The operation was conducted from 05:30 to 14:00 on Thursday, April 28.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks said the four-phased operation with one roadblock on the N12 highway in Bekkersdal was complemented by crime-prevention groups, vehicle checkpoints and crime detection. Other law-enforcement agencies and partners that were involved in the operation included Gauteng Traffic Police, Rand West City Traffic Police, Department of Community Safety, Home Affairs and Community Policing Forums.

The 58 arrests that were made, were one for housebreaking and theft; 11 for assault with intend to inflict grievous bodily harm; four for possession of drugs with warrant of arrest; five for common assault; one for theft; one for malicious damage to property; two for contravention of protection order; one for drunk driving; one for contempt of court; one for use of motor vehicle without its owner’s consent; one for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition; two for dealing in dagga; two for dealing in drugs; five for possession of dagga; two for dealing in liquor without a licence; three for possession of gold-bearing material; and 12 illegal immigrants.

Acting District Police Commissioner, Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela applauded all members for their hard work.

All arrested suspects were expected to appear briefly in the Westonaria and Bekkersdal Magistrates’ Courts soon.
