Multi-disciplinary weekend operations yield 103 arrests

Minor offences such as trespassing, shoplifting and undocumented persons were also policed.

The West Rand District Police conducted crime-prevention operations aimed at minimising and limiting the space for criminals to ensure that the community is safe.

West Rand District Police communications officer, Sergeant Carmen Hendricks said the multi-disciplinary weekend operations started on Friday June 3 and ended on Sunday June 5, and 130 arrests were made.

Suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from two for rape; six for malicious damage to property; five for assault with the intend to cause grievous bodily harm; seven for common assault relating to domestic violence; nine for theft; three for contravention of protection order; two for dealing in liquor without a licence; 13 for possession of drugs; two for possession of dagga; three for possession of copper cable; one for attempted theft of copper; 22 for drunken driving; one for business burglary; one for failure to appear in court; five for housebreaking and theft; one for dealing in dagga; one for being drunk and disorderly in public; two for attempt to entice with the purpose to commit prostitution; 13 for possession of suspected stolen property; one for malicious damage to property and common assault; one for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm; two for interfering with police duties; one for theft of motor vehicle; one for common assault relating to domestic violence and malicious damage to property; one for assault of a police officer; one for common assault relating to domestic violence and resisting arrest; three for loitering; one for drunken driving, and for reckless and/ or negligent driving.

“Minor offences such as trespassing, shoplifting and undocumented persons were also policed,” Hendricks said.

All arrested suspects will appear before their respective magistrate’s courts within the District soon.

The District Police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana thanked all members for their hard work and for selflessly serving the community.
